A $20,000 fare worth every cent.

Even though the meter’s stopped ticking, we’re still smashing our campaign targets with the Extraordinary Taxi Ride. We’ve reached 98 million people globally, generated $13 of tourism revenue for every $1 spent and started to reposition the state with our target audience who are now more likely to believe that WA truly is an extraordinary place.

Have a look at some of the amazing video from the trip below.

Celebrating the filthiest soccer nations.

The Fantasy Cheaters League was a Host initiative to name and shame the biggest cheats at the 2010 World Cup, and celebrate our love of the Beautiful Game.

Using the popular fantasy league format, we marked every game at the World Cup and recorded every whine, dive, spit and sly wink. No easy feat, considering most games were shown at midnight and 4am here in Australia.

Two people marked each game separately so the scores could be verified. While one tweeted live cheaty updates, the other wrote a match report for the blog. Needless to say, there were some serious caffeine and bacon sandwich addictions to deal with once the tournament finished.

Andrew’s World Tour.

At Host we pride ourselves on our people. One of the rewards for being a long term Hostie is a sabbatical with paid time off and budget to go do something they’ve always wanted to do. Andrew recently got back from his trip – here’s what he had to say about the experience.

“Music has always been an important part of my life. From early days singing into my plastic Fisher Price recording machine, to learning piano, trumpet and guitar at school, to a decade with my former band Kid Confucius, music always seemed to find me.

An important factor in writing and recording music is the environment in which they happen. Different environments can inspire different results and sometimes that difference can be golden. Europe was a golden environment for me. Especially since I’ve never made music outside of Australia.

The Europe Sessions was a production of 4 songs. A song in each city. Paris, London, Berlin and Amsterdam. I used state-of-the-art recording studios in each city and was helped by local sound engineers, producers and a host of friends, including piano players, singers, drummers, DJs, guitarists, and avid music lovers.”

Oasis Youth Support Network – 32,000 To Go.

In 2009, Host began working with The Salvation Army’s Oasis Youth Support Network on a pro bono basis. Together, we set out to raise the profile and understanding of youth homelessness, and get people to see it as an important social issue that needs their support.

Our aim was to recruit individuals and businesses from the community to share Oasis’ goal in reducing youth homelessness in Australia. We wanted to show that this isn’t a problem that can be solved by governments alone – it takes compassion and support from individuals at a community level to really make a difference.

The result was a public awareness campaign called ’32,000 to Go’.
